Lyme Disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia Burgdorferi, which is transmitted by the bite of a tick that usually lives on deer but can infest dogs. The disease is most widely recognised in the US but is also a problem in many parts of Europe, including the heathlands of Southern England. The British Lyme Disease Foundation aims to provide a resource of information about Lyme disease and hopefully fund research into better diagnosis, treatment regimes and most importantly raising public awareness to stop people contracting the disease. The BLDF will soon be applying for registered status as a charity. The Foundation can supply a large 200page pack of information for you with all the Lancet and American Journal of Science articles from the last few years. The packs costs £40 which includes copying, postage and a small donation to the charity. Send cheques to the above address, made payable to MJ Greenfield.
