Comment:

CAFCASS was created by the Criminal Justice and Courts Services Act 2000, which received Royal Assent on Thursday 30th November 2000. CAFCASS brought together all those groups of practitioners who provided advice to the courts about the wellbeing of children and their families. These services have previously been provided by three separate services: the Family Court Welfare Service, the Guardian ad Litem and Reporting Officer Service and the Children's Divisions of the Official Solicitor's Department. CAFCASS is now a non-departmental public body answering to the Lord Chancellor.
