Organisation:
British Amputees And Les Autres Sports Association

Comment:

BALASA was founded in 1996 after amalgamation of BASA (British Amputee Sports Association) and BLASA (British Les Autres Sports Association) which was formed in 1982. Their role was to provide sporting opportunities for amputees & those with other types of disabilities. BALASA is the National Disability Sports Organisation (NDSO) for athletics in Great Britain and is an integral part of the British Paralympic Association (BPA). They provide support encouragement and coaching for those wishing to participate in track and field athletics at what ever level. This could be purely for recreation at club level, or through to elite i.e. international level. They have a development group of potential athletes and junior participation is especially important as it provides a new circle of friends and increases heath and fitness levels.
