Comment: | The Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide voluntary uniformed youth organisation, open to young people aged twelve to eighteen and with Junior Sections open to those aged ten to twelve, regardless of sex, religion or race. It is also open, within the bounds of safety to themselves and others, to those with special needs. The Sea Cadet Corps is run by enthusiastic adult volunteers.
Topics that cadets can expect to learn in their Unit during their basic training include:
+ parade training and physical training;
+ fire prevention;
+ ship's routine, basic seamanship and boatwork;
+ first aid;
+ safety within the unit.
A wide variety of other subjects are also available, both on the water and on dry land. All cadets learn about the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and other sea services. There are units in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Stroud and the Forest of Dean. Contact details are available on their website. |
