Comment: | Gloucester and District Alzheimer's society Side by Side Befriending Service is a service for carers of people with dementia in the Gloucester and district area. A volunteer and a carer will be matched up and the volunteer will provide supprt and companionship to the carer - this can be by personal visit or by talking on the telephone. This gives the carer regular contact with a trained volunteer, the opportunity to have time for themselves, to go out, go shopping, etc, and the opportunity to reduce their feelings of isolation and loneliness.
For volunteers, they offer opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones, regular training opportunities and the satisfaction of forging a long term rewarding friendship with one or two carers who appreciate their support. |
