Comment: | The Deceased Preference Service (DPS) gives relatives or partners of the deceased an easy, secure and proven method of removing the deceased person's name and address details from mailing lists. Registering with the DPS will inform most marketing and financial services companies of the deceased's details, removing the need to write to individual organisations.
By completing one simple form, the name of the deceased is placed on a file that is used by reputable companies to remove the registered name from promotional mailing lists. It is also used by financial institutions to check applications, so any criminal attempt to use the deceased's name is thwarted, preventing more distress to the bereaved.
The service is specially designed so that it stops only unsolicited mail and does not affect official post such as bank statements, utility bills, etc.
Registration is simple and free of charge. The form is available from Funeral Directors, Hospices, Registrars and Crematoria, over the telephone and on-line. |
