Comment:

Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) provide a drop-in centre for refugees and asylum seekers and offers a 'safe space' to enjoy activities, refreshments and relationships. GARAS aim to provide information, advocacy and advice on health, housing, benefits, immigration, law, education and career. They provide access to other agencies, eg. Red Cross family tracing, Gloscat English courses, careers guidance, health visitors and the CAB. They can also offer food, clothing, toys (for urgent needs), furniture, household items and bedding.

In addition GARAS seeks to:
negotiate access to services at a strategic level;
liaise with other agencies in Gloucester/shire who encounter asylum seekers and refugees;
raise awareness about the situation of asylum seekers and refugees in Gloucestershire.
They can also offer trauma counselling for those requiring it.
