Comment: | Gloucestershire provides a range of services for children with disabilities and their families. The County Council has a policy that children with disabilities must be considered as children first, and services must enable them to live as normal a life as possible. Some services are directly provided, some are bought in and some are independently provided. When children's needs are assessed, the needs of parents and other family members should be taken into account. Support can be provided to the whole family if needed. Parents and siblings may be able to have an assessment in their own right - a Carer's Assessment.
Schemes operate throughout the County to provide home care services, play and activity opportunities and outreach services. The aim is to provide the child or young person with a positive experience, and access to activities enjoyed by non-disabled children. Also, other family members can have a short break from caring and a chance to 'recharge their batteries'. See also Family Link Service. Jordansbrook House itself is a residential unit offering respite care placements for children with disabilities from the county. |
