Organisation: War Pensioners Welfare Service

Comment:

The War Pensioners Welfare Service aims to provide welfare support to people in receipt of a War Disability Pension or War Widows Pension and help and advice to people who wish to submit a pension claim or appeal to the Veterans Agency. It also provides expert advice on all aspects of War Pensions, the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (April 2005) and other benefits. It provides wide-ranging welfare support to War Pensioners, War Widows and the ex-service community, both by direct action and by referral to other agencies. The service works closely with all the main ex-service welfare organisations, Social Services and charitable funds.

The Veterans Agency (see separate record) was formed in 2001 and is part of the Ministry of Defence. It replaced the War Pensions Agency.
