Organisation:Bristol Crisis Service for Women

Comment:

The Bristol Crisis Service for Women (BCSW) is a voluntary organisation and a charity, set up in 1986, to support women in emotional distress. They particularly help women who harm themselves (often called self-injury - this is how some people cope with their feelings and problems. They aim to offer support to women in emotional distress, and particularly to those who self-injure.

The Bristol Crisis Service for Women runs a Helpline - available to women anywhere in the country - on Friday and Saturday evenings, 9:00pm to 12:30am and Sundays 6:00pm to 9:00pm. They offer any woman who rings a chance to talk through her feelings in confidence, without fear of being judged or dismissed. Around half the calls relate to self injury and many are from survivors of childhood abuse. Interpreters are available.

Booklets, research and information on self injury are available, as is training for professionals who work with women who self injure.
