Comment: | Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a poorly recognised chronic inflammatory skin disorder which mainly affects the vulval and perianal area. Although it is a condition which mainly affects mature women, there are women of all ages with LS. Men can have the disorder and this affects the penis and sometimes the anal area. Children can also suffer from LS and it can sometimes affect other areas of the body.
The Lichen Sclerosus Support Group (NLSSG) aims to offer some information about lichen sclerosus where this is current and available. However, the main role of NLSSG is to offer support and self help information and to relieve the sense of isolation felt by those who have LS. Please note, they cannot offer direct medical advice.
The NLSSG produces a vulval self examination leaflet and an information sheet which includes sections on:
description of disease and symptoms;
diagnosis and treatment;
vulval care;
LS and men;
LS and children;
information from a Consultant Dermatologist. |
