Organisation: Womankind - Bristol Women's Therapy Centre

Comment:

The aim of Womankind is to support women with depression and other long-term mental health problems. To achieve this, a number of services are provided. A telephone Helpline is available Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 12 noon, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons 1:00 to 3:00pm and Monday and Tuesday evenings 8:00 to 10:00pm.
Open ended therapy groups - fixed term, theme based therapy groups which allow women to focus on specific problems - individual counselling - befriending scheme (in South Gloucestershire only) in partnership with local health care trust - student placements - training for volunteers - training workshops in working with depressed women. Support is also offered to women who have experienced domestic violence.
There is a high demand for their services, so sometimes they have to close the waiting lists for therapy and counselling. However, women can still use the helpline to talk to another woman in confidence for up to an hour at a time.
