Comment: | Contact a Family (CaF) is a UK-wide charity providing advice, information and support to parents of all disabled children - no matter what their health condition. They enable parents to get in contact with other families through a family linking service, both on a local and national basis. They offer a freephone helpline, with access to interpreters if needed. They have local, regional and national offices, and volunteer family workers around the UK.
They also provide information to professionals and development advice to support groups, and work to influence services and campaign to improve the quality of life for families with disabled children. There is a wide range of publications, including the Contact a Family Directory (£35.00 - new edition every year), and much information on their website.
CaF also supports national parents groups concerned with specific conditions and rare disorders, many of which are listed in the CaF Directory, held at the GUiDE office. The freephone helpline number (0808-808-3555) is intended only for parents / carers use. It is open 10:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. The office number of 020-7608-8700 is for professionals and others. |
