Comment: | MacIntyre began as one man's pioneering vision to provide lifelong care, education and development to a group of people who would have otherwise spent their lives in institutions and long stay hospitals.
MacIntyre now provides services for children and adults with learning disabilities, who may also have associated physical, sensory or behavioural disabilities, throughout the United Kingdom. The range of services includes registered care homes, supported living schemes, accredited training schemes and day services, as well as two residential schools. They run a growing number of Supported Living schemes where individuals have their own tenancies with a separate landlord, usually a Housing Association.
MacIntyre residential homes are, in the main, community based houses for between four and six people, most of which are Registered Care homes. Many houses have been designed or adapted to be accessible to people in a wheelchair and for those with a sensory impairment. The support offered is usually long term and they have people with them in their forties who attended one of their schools when they were young children. |
