Organisation: Supportive Parents for Special Children

Comment:

Supportive Parents for Special Children (SPSC) is a parent-led organisation providing a confidential and independent support service to parents of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. They offer information and support to enable parents to play a more active and informed role in their child's education.
Their Information and Support Line (0117-989-7725) is staffed by two trained, Independent Parental Supporters (IPS). Monthly support group meetings are held throughout the area - please phone for details, or ask your school. They can also help parents / carers prepare written parental contributions for Statutory assessments, reviews, etc. They offer help to prepare for meetings with schools or the LEA, and may be able to provide support at that meeting.
Training courses for parents give further information about SEN issues; it offers an opportunity for parents to become ISP's, and give their support in turn to other parents.
