Organisation:Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children

Comment:

The Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children (PASIC) is a registered charity, formed in 1977 for children who had been diagnosed with cancer. It is there to provide support to any families in the East Midlands. It was felt that the best kind of support would come from parents who had been in a similar position with the help of consultants from the Queen's Medical Centre. It now supports more than two hundred families with practical help, financial help or information and advice. It has a turnover of approx £30,000 and depends on funds raised by the public. It helps to pay additional bills (eg. heating, telephone) for families. PASIC organises social events for families, including siblings, and offers parent-to-parent support and support for teenagers; it provides a network for parents to stay in touch and provide mutual support, as well as a regular newsletter to keep families updated.
