Comment: | The Family Welfare Association (FWA) assists families to overcome the effects of poverty, providing educational support and welfare grants. Applications can be made for one off grants by people with chronic needs, but must come through a professional, such as a Health Visitor or Social Worker.
FWA's Family Centres offer drop-in facilities where children can play safely while their parents make new friends and learn new ways to manage their children's behaviour and to meet their emotional needs. Work includes practical matters such as budgeting and managing a home.
FWA offers day centres for people with profound mental health difficulties and residential care services are for people with long-term mental health problems.
FWA's Building Bridges services help families where a parent suffers significant mental ill-health, helping to keep the children at home and parents out of hospital.
FWA also runs the Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) offering advice to students concerning financial matters, and also incorporates the former FSU. |
