The Independent Living (1993) Fund is a trust set up to provide cash payments to enable severely disabled people to live at home instead of residential care. The Fund is financed by the Government, but administered by seven independent trustees. To make an application the disabled person must meet all the following:- be aged at least sixteen and under sixty six; be in receipt of the highest component of the Disability Living Allowance, and able to remain in the community for the next six months; receive a minimum of £200.00 per week of services or Direct Payments from the Local Authority (net of any charge); have capital of less than £18,500, and an income that is insufficient to cover the cost of care needed (this includes partner's income and capital); be living in the UK. The Fund is able to top up the Local Authority (LA) services to a maximum of £375.00 per week (or £455.00 per week if the LA is funding a minimum of £330.00 per week). The combined LA and ILF93 joint package must not exceed £785.00 for the initial six months.
