Founded in 1986, the remit of the Medical Advisory Service (MAS) is to offer information and advice to members of the public on all healthcare concerns. The following helplines are operated by MAS nurses, many of whom are work injured and unable to work in a clinical capacity:
+ General Medical Helpline: 020-8994-9874; 6:00 to 8:00pm, every day - covers all general medical queries;
+ IBS Helpline: 0114-272-3253; 6:00 to 8:00pm weekdays, 10:00am to 12 noon Saturday - help with problems related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS);
+ Men's Health Helpline: 020-8995-4448; 7:00 to 9:00pm, Mondays - covers enquiries related to male health including, genetic disorders, prostate problems, cancers, cardiac conditions, STDs, menopause, sports injuries, impotence.
+ Meningitis Research Foundation (0808-800-3344) and Meningitis Trust (0800-028-1828): MAS operates an overnight and weekend service to facilitate a twenty four hour helpline.
+Prostate Cancer Charity: 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 9:00pm Wednesdays: MAS nurses support the Prostate Cancer Charity helpline for anyone affected.
