Belmont School is for pupils whose specialneeds have been identified from the broad category of MLD, according to severity, as:
moderate and additional learning difficulties (MALD);
complex learning difficulties (CLD).
Included in both these categories may be children who have been diagnosed as having an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). The particular focus for the school is to be supporting those with an emotional vulnerability that arises from their learning needs.
All pupils will have a statement. Admission is based on the needs of the individual child or young person and may take place at any point in the year.
The local authority makes referrals for placement to Belmont.
