Organisation:Bettridge School

Comment:

Bettridge School is a special school providing services for children with severe learning disabilities and incorporating an assessment unit for children between the ages of two and five. Staff seek to develop the full learning potential of each child so that he or she may reach a level of independence which requires the minimum of support from other people in the community. To achieve this aim, the needs of individual children are determined and teaching programmes are devised to provide a balanced curriculum, including access to relevant aspects of the National Curriculum.
The school uses a "Total Communication" approach to support teaching and learning. It has recently been designated as a Specialist School (SEN) under the national programme and can provide training and support through this to mainstream schools, community and business organisations and parents.
