Comment: | The Lee Spark NF (Necrotising Fasciitis) Foundation has the following aims:
+ to offer information and support to survivors, relatives and friends;
+ to raise the profile and awareness of the condition amongst both professionals and laymen.
The group produces leaflets giving information about the disease and the group's activities, as well as a quarterly newsletter. They have volunteers all over the UK, so that anyone who calls the foundation can be put in touch with a local contact. These services are supported by a team of medical professionals.
Necrotising Fasciitis (NF) is a severe infection involving the soft tissues below the skin, particularly the fascia. NF may be caused by a number of bacteria, including Group A Streptococcus. Streptococcal necrotising fasciitis is a serious but rare condition, with approximately two thousand reported cases in the UK each year.
The very informative website (www.nfsuk.org.uk) also has information about the closely related conditions Toxic Shock and MRSA. |
