Comment:

HopeLine UK is a new helpline (from September 2005) run by Papyrus (Prevention of Suicides)(see separate record). It offers professional help, support and advice to the parents, carers, teachers, professionals and friends of young people at risk of suicide. It is these people who are most likely to notice the early signs of suicidal tendencies, and these people who may be close enough to that young person to support them through their times of distress and through their crisis and so prevent that young person taking their own life. The helpline will of course also respond to anyone who calls because they themselves are suicidal.
