Comment:

Established in 1983, MDF - The Bipolar Organisation is a national user-led organisation and registered charity for people whose lives are affected by manic depression. MDF aims to enable people affected by manic depression (bi-polar) to take control of their lives through the services that we offer members. These include:
+ MDF self help groups;
+ information and publications;
+ employment advice;
+ the MDF Self Management Training Programme (STEADY - see separate record);
+ a 24-hour Legal Advice Line for employment, legal, benefits and debt issues;
+ travel insurance scheme;
+ life assurance.
They also work to provide new services, which reflect the members' needs, and seek to combat the stigma and prejudice experienced by those affected by manic depression.
For information on local groups in your area, look on the website, or phone the Group Network and Development Co-ordinator, Jeremy Bacon.
