Comment: | The Zito Trust is a registered mental health charity and was established in 1994, following the publication of the report of the inquiry into the care and treatment of Christopher Clunis who killed Jonathan Zito on 17 December 1992. Jonathan was with his brother waiting for a tube at Finsbury Park when Clunis approached him from behind and fatally stabbed him in the eye. He had been married for just three months to Jayne Zito.
Christopher Clunis suffered from schizophrenia. The subsequent report into the homicide revealed a catalogue of errors and missed opportunities in his care, stretching back over many years. He had a long history of violence, institutional care and non-compliance with treatment programmes.
The Trust campaigns for better Community Care for people with mental illness, conducts relevant research, provides training for healthcare professionals and provides a support service for families and carers. It does not work directly with service users. |
