Comment: | YPN (Younger Parkinson's Network) is a volunteer group within the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS). They provide a focus for the needs of younger people with Parkinson's. Although Parkinson's is more common in older people, in the UK it is estimated that of the ten thousand people diagnosed each year one in twenty are under forty. Younger people with Parkinson's can face particular challenges, such as:
+ getting help and information about work;
+ finding out where you stand financially:
+ coping with the emotional effects of being diagnosed.
There are several younger people's support groups across the UK, offering the chance for younger people to get together, share experiences and find out about information and support that may be of help. To find out about local support, please visit the PDS website or call the PDS free phone helpline on 0808-800-0303. YPN have a magazine which is published three times a year, and a website website which links from the PDS site in the "Younger People" section at www.parkinsons.org.uk. It has more information about the activities of YPN, locally and regionally, younger people sharing their experience of living with Parkinson's and details of local YPN groups.
