Organisation:Gloucestershire Home Safety Check Scheme

Comment:

The Gloucestershire Home Safety Check Scheme aims to reduce the number of home accidents in the county. The service is directed towards the most vulnerable - the very young and the elderly - although anyone can apply for a free home safety check. Trained field workers visit homes, offer advice on any faults that they can identify, and carry out essential repair work free of charge. This includes a full and thorough inspection of all electrical equipment, including electric blankets. They also give advice and practical help on issues relating to falls prevention.
They provide and fit a wide range of essential safety equipment (stair gates, fire guards etc.) with the equipment being supplied at cost price. They also work with medical and social care professionals, charities and voluntary agencies to give equipment to needy families.
Members of staff also give talks and present displays to groups throughout Gloucestershire eg. senior citizen's clubs, luncheon clubs, day centres, mother and toddler groups etc.
