Thrive is the national charity whose aim is to enable positive change in the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people through the use of gardening and horticultureSince 1978, Thrive has been accumulating experience of using gardening and horticulture to enable people to: increase self-esteem and build confidence; learn basic skills and social skills; gain qualifications and the opportunity to move into employment; rebuild their life after illness or accident. Thrive currently runs a national resource centre and garden projects in London and Reading. It runs specialist services (in partnership with the RNIB) to support blind and partially sighted gardeners, and a pilot scheme with Help the Aged to enable aged or disabled people to manage their own gardens with advice and support from volunteers. www.carryongardening.org.uk is Thrive's easier gardening website. They also run subsidised training courses for those working in social and therapeutivc horticulture or related health and education fields.
