Comment: | The National NHS Counter Fraud Service was established to counter all fraud and corruption throughout the Country's NHS. It covers NHS staff, patients and contractors this can include general examples eg false expenses, or bogus invoices, illegal use of NHS property and services. More particularly pharmaceutical fraud committed by patients and public alike to obtain controlled drugs or to avoid charges. Similarly for dental work and optical services. Staff are also monitored for medical services fraud or procurement fraud in which services are falsely charged for.
The NHS Trusts and Hospitals are also under scrutiny for fraud. The Counter Fraud Unit both raises awareness of the counter fraud message and responds to requests for investigation.
