Gloucestershire NHS Counter Fraud Service was established in 1998 to counter all fraud and corruption throughout the County's NHS. It covers NHS staff, patients and contractors this can include general examples such as false expenses or bogus invoices, illegal use of NHS property and services and pharmaceutical fraud committed by patients and public alike to obtain controlled drugs or to avoid charges. Dental work and optical services are included.
The NHS Trusts and Hospitals are also under scrutiny for fraud. The Counter Fraud Unit both raises awareness of the counter fraud message and responds to requests for investigation.
