Comment: | Contact the Elderly (see separate record for national organisation) was formed thirty eight years years ago and now has over two hundred groups, including a number around the Bristol / Gloucester Area. Its aim is to alleviate the isolation and loneliness of elderly people who live on their own, with little of no support from family, for whatever reason.
One Sunday afternoon a month groups of around eight elderly people are taken to the home of a host who organises a tea party for them and their volunteer drivers. Each driver, having been allocated one or two elderly guests, collects them around 2:30 to 2:45pm, takes them to the tea party, stays with them ensuring that they have a rewarding and enjoyable afternoon. At around 5:00pm the guests are taken home and seen safely indoors.
Suzan is the National Volunteer Support Officer - her remit includes Gloucestershire; contact her for details about groups in your area, about volunteering, or even about starting a group. |
