Organisation:Palliative Care

Comment:

Palliative care is aimed at controlling rather than curing a serious illness. This means reducing symptoms to ensure a good quality of life. The team consists of a Palliative Care Consultant, two Specialist Nurses, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and Social Worker. The team act as a resource, advising on pain and symptom control, as well as offering psychological, emotional and social support to patients and carers, in conjunction with health care professionals within the hospitals.
There is a Palliative Care out-patient clinic on Friday mornings in the Gloucester Royal Hospital outpatients' department and on Wednesday mornings at Wheatstone Day Hospice.
