Comment: | On 1 April 2025 the Health Development Agency joined with the National Institute for Clinical Excellence to become the new National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (to be known as NICE). It is part of the NHS and is a special health authority. It is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on treatments and care for those using the NHS in England and Wales. NICE provides guidance for healthcare professionals, patients and their carers. Guidance and recommendations are prepared by independent groups that include health professionals and people who are familiar with the issues affecting patients and carers.
The institute will also undertake the former HDA's specific role, to support other agencies in raising public health standards. Functions include: establishing and disseminating an evidence base for effective public health action; developing public health standards and supporting their implementation; advising on the capability and capacity of the public health workforce. |
