Comment: | After School Clubs (sometimes known as Out-of-School Clubs) look after school age children after school - and in some cases before school too; these are known as Breakfast Clubs. If they look after children under the age of eight, they must by law be registered and regularly inspected by OFSTED, and they will have had a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check done on all staff. There are minimum qualifications required too.
Most Clubs are based in school premises, and are exclusive to that school. However, some do operate by collecting children from various schools by minibus.
For information about choosing childcare, and comprehensive and accurate lists of Registered After School Clubs in your area, contact your local Childrens Information Service (CIS).
