The Patients' Association aims to help and support patients. It is independent of government, the health professionals and thedrug industry. Its two main functions are firstly to represent the patients viewpoint to many official bodies and professional organisations and secondly, provide information for patients and carers on patients rights, complaints procedures, access to health services and self-help groups. They also advises enquirers with problems relating to the NHS, private, voluntary and independent health sectors. They do not give medical advice or act as advocates.
