The Braille Chess Association (BCA) is a national body that aims to support, encourage and promote the playing of chess by blind and partially sighted people. Members can take advantage of a wide range of services including over the board tournaments at home and overseas, postal chess in Braille, on cassette and by e-mail, and free access to a library of chess books, periodicals and other instructional material in Braille and on cassette.
The BCA runs a website containing news, information, games, etc. A quarterly newsletter is available in Braille, large print, on cassette, by e-mail, on floppy disk and on the website. There is also an e-mail discussion list.
Members are welcome at all levels of chess ability, from strong club players to those wishing to learn the game. The Association runs a programme of Youth Development which includes free membership and other concessions for UK residents under twenty five. Sighted people with an interest in chess are welcome to join as associate members.
