Comment: | This is a part of Mencap, specialising in help for people with multiple difficulties - physical as well as mental.
Given the right resources, people with profound and multiple learning disabilities can lead fulfilling lives and take part in the every day activities which all people enjoy. Mencap works closely with parents to show how teaching and stimulation can develop existing and new abilities in their son or daughter. District staff provide practical help in setting up seminars and workshops which give information and advice on such issues such as communication, leisure and planning for the future.
Mencap is campaigning for:
+ the vision set out in the White Paper 'Valuing People' to be delivered for people with profound and multiple learning difficulties;
+ more accessible toilets in the community;
+ more equal access to health services;
+ better support for children with health needs in educational settings;
+ more opprtunities for advocacy;
+ minimum short break entitlements for families. |
