| Organisation: | Birthmark Support Group |
Comment: | The Birthmark Support Group is a registered charity. It was set up by parents of children with birthmarks in December 1998 at the suggestion of Drs. Harper and Syed from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Its objective is to provide a UK based support group for anyone with a birthmark.
The word Birthmark is a common term used to describe the various birthmark types of which port wine stain, haemangioma and congenital melanocytic naevus are all examples
The group aims:
+ to provide support and information to anyone of any age who has a birthmark and their relatives;
+ to raise awareness amongst the medical profession about the correct treatment of birthmarks - at present not all medical professionals are aware of the various birthmark types and treatments available;
+ to raise awareness of birthmarks amongst the general public so that social interaction is managed with the appropriate care and understanding. |
