The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy is a Residential Specialist College of Further Education which offers the three year course Further Education Through Horsemastership. The course is for horse-motivated young people between sixteen and twenty five and teaches life and independent living skills using a horse-based extended curriculum. The Course exists to give an opportunity to learn to people with learning, behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Prospective students should not be in an acute phase of any illness or condition, must desire to be a part of the Course and be able to take part in all the activities that make up the extended curriculum. Primary learning aims for each student are identified and students set out to achieve their own best through the Mencap Essential Skills Award. For some this means gaining formal certification and various accredited achievements can be worked towards.
Students are predominantly funded by the Learning and Skills Council.
