Organisation:Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Comment:

The Hearing Dogs for Deaf People scheme has been in operation since 1982. Its aim is to train dogs to act as hearing ears for deaf people by responding to everyday sounds. Potential owners are carefully selected. They must have a severe, profound or total hearing loss, have a real need for the help of a hearing dog and be physically and financially able to care for a dog. After intensive training, the dog will be able to identify everyday sounds, determine the source, then find and touch the deaf recipient before leading them to the source.
