Organisation:Dystonia Society

Comment:

The Dystonia Society is dedicated to the support of all people affected by Dystonia, which is a neurological movement disorder, dominated by involuntary, sustained muscle spasms. These can affect various parts of the body and can cause abnormal movements and postures. The Society works to help sufferers and their families cope with the everyday challenges of this disorder through awareness, research and welfare. Their mission is to make living with dystonia easier.
Through the central office, there is access to information about all aspects of dystonia and related issues, and a telephone support service. They also provide information concerning other aspects of living with dystonia, such as equipment, benefits, mobility and employment.
A network of local groups and branches provide opportunities for people to meet, share experiences, provide mutual encouragement and support. A regular newsletter is published and available free to members.
The Society also supports an informal Young Dystonia network, which has its own annual magazine.
