Comment: | The The Door Youth Project aims to offer young people friendship, support and encouragement, as well as offering a way forward for those who are looking for a deeper dimension to life. The Door offers the following facilities:
+ cafe style coffee and snack bar, plus information and advice, open to everyone;
+ shop - stock includes items made by students;
+ recreational area, including a pool table;
+ counselling room (ring for an appointment;
+ mentoring - the mentoring service is called Light at the Door (see separate record).
Training can be provided (but only with a referral from a PA at Connexions) in basic skills, personal development and vocational skills eg. woodworking. This includes parenting skills training for young parents and job seeker training for unemployed people. The Door Youth Project office is on the second floor, not wheelchair accessible, but every effort is made to welcome and work with young disabled people (Counselling services can be taken to the person's home). The Door also works with local schools to provide youth work within a school setting, ie. during a lunch time and for PSE lessons.
During the school holidays extended opening hours apply - Monday to Friday 1:00 to 5:00pm. |
