Organisation: Motability

Comment:

Motability is the national charity, whose car and wheelchair schemes provide a means of mobility to around four hundred thousand disabled people and their families. To qualify, applicants must be in receipt of the Higher Mobility rate of DLA, or the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement.

In exchange for all, or part, of a disabled person’s government-funded disability allowance, Motability enables people to lease or buy a car, or powered wheelchair. Children from the age of three and non-drivers can also use the Motability Scheme as passengers, providing they receive the qualifying allowance.

Motability’s also makes grants to those disabled people who cannot afford to obtain a suitable car.
