Comment:

Gloucester Food Bank aims to meet a fundamental need for food for disadvantaged people in Gloucester. This need will be met through a straightforward system of collection, collation and distribution of basic food items to support people in crisis. The Food Bank will offer a temporary, practical stop-gap. It can also be used as a catalyst for starting to get to grips with some of the fundamental challenges that overwhelm people. The Food Bank can provide free emergency food for three days which is often the time that it can take for the appropriate agencies to be in a position to assist. This provides a short breathing space to enable longer term solutions to be applied. The Centre is engaging statutory and voluntary agencies to act as distributors. The Centre will provide these agencies with vouchers (valued at £24.00) which can be distributed to people in crisis. These vouchers can then be exchanged for a supply of food items. The Emergency Food Boxes contain cereals, milk, soup, pasta, meat, fish and vegetables.
