Townsend House has forty beds, is dual registered and managed by the Orders of St John Care Trust. Facilities consist of twenty nursing and sixteen residential beds plus a rehabilitation unit of four beds. All rooms are single rooms, some of which are on ground level. Some rooms have ensuite facilities. There is a hairdressing salon, and chiropody, dental care and optical care service are available. Many leisure activities are arranged and nursing care is available twenty four hours a day.

The rehabilitation unit is the Intermediate Care Forest of Dean Rehabilitation Unit, used by the Intermediate Care Community Rehabilitation Team (see separate record) for their clients who are temporarily not ready to return to their homes after major illness, surgery, etc.
