Organisation: The National ME Centre

Comment:

The National ME Centre (NMEC) offers support, diagnosis and management advice. The centre is staffed by a full time Manager along with a band of twenty five volunteer support workers. They provide help, care and support to sufferers and their families. The Centre offers a fully integrated service for the management of this complex illness. This includes, and is dependent upon, the skills of professional clinicians and therapists as well as volunteer support workers, many of whom have experienced ME. They can offer advice over the telephone and referral to local services.
The NMEC is a charity working on site with a National Health Service Trust which provides necessary in-patient facilities including diagnostic evaluation and in-patient care for those patients severely affected and unable to cope with an outpatient service.
Full details of the referral procedure are included in an information pack available from the centre. The NMEC also provides information packs and telephone information to GP's.
