Comment: | Carer's Allowance (CA) (formerly called Invalid Care Allowance or ICA) is a taxable benefit for informal carers. The person you look after could be a relative, friend or neighbour, and you must spend thirty five hours per week caring for them. CA may affect other benefits (yours or the person being cared for), but it can be paid to more than one person in a household, such as a couple caring for each other. To claim CA you must be aged sixteen or over.
You cannot get CA if you are in full-time education (twenty one hours or more a week of supervised study) and you must not earn above £87.00 a week (as from 9/04/07).
