Comment: | The Independent Midwives Association was founded by a group of independent midwives in July 1985. The Association exists for the dissemination of information about, and support for, independent midwives, and to lobby for the traditional role of the midwife. These aims are supported in the following ways:
by providing a central source for enquires, data, information, reports etc;
by holding regular meetings for members;
by running workshops for midwives interested in setting up in independent practice;
by giving talks about independent practice to interested parties.
All members are happy to be contacted for more information on their individual practices or midwifery generally. They are willing to answer women's personal inquiries.
Members of the IMA work outside the NHS yet support its aims and ideals. As practitioners, midwives can take full responsibility for the care of childbearing women. Independent Midwives book women mainly for home births, providing full ante natal, labour and post natal care, liaising with other health practitioners as and when necessary.
Many members have expertise in natural breech and twin births and will support women to have a natural birth after Caesarian Section. |
