Organisation:Disaster Action

Comment:

Founded in 1991, Disaster Action is a charity which was set up by survivors and the bereaved in response to the series of major disasters that happened in the UK in the late 1980s. It acts as an umbrella organisation to represent the common problems faced by individuals or disaster groups.
Disaster Action has three primary aims:
+ to campaign for a safety climate in which disasters are less likely to occur and work to change the laws governing manslaughter;
+ to offer support and guidance to those directly affected by disaster;
+ to provide continuing advice to emergency management organisations and to ensure that the immediate needs of those affected by disasters are fully taken into account.
As part of their campaign for a safety climate, theyre are involved in projects, discussions and lobbying for changes in legislation in relation to "corporate killing". They also offer a lecturing service and regularly contribute to emergency management courses, and have produced a series of leaflets (available on their website) and a book on corporate responsibility.
