Comment:

The Leprosy Relief Association (LEPRA) is a medical development charity which works to restore health, hope and dignity to people affected by leprosy. To that end they raise funds in the UK to provide treatment for, and research into, the disease of leprosy.
They work through:
+ running treatment programmes directly and working in partnership with government agencies to integrate leprosy treatment into general health services;
+ co-operation with other international institutions and other NGO's including ILEP - The International Federation of Anti-leprosy Associations;
+ funding research into the causes, prevention and treatment of leprosy and allied diseases.
For the future, LEPRA intends to provide education and control of tuberculosis together with its work on leprosy and to promote education awareness of HIV/AIDS, as this is a major problem in many of the countries in which LEPRA works.
